KIM WARREN HOWARD ~ Class of 1969
April 20, 1951 - April 11, 1998

Kim Howard

Kim W. Howard, 46, born April 20, 1951 in Richland passed from this world on April 11, 1998 the result of a heart attack suffered at his home in Lake Oswego, OR.

Kim was the oldest of four sons born to Betty W. and the late John W. Howard of Richland.

A 1969 graduate of Richland's Columbia High School, he trained as a scuba diver and later completed his apprenticeship through IBEW Local 77 to work as a journeyman power lineman.

Despite adversities from the partial loss of a leg in the early eighties, Kim went back to the work he loved as a construction power lineman with his union brothers.

As with construction, his work took him to many interesting locations in numerous states, his favorites being where he could fish, be it the rivers or the ocean. He lived in Astoria, OR for several years where he could look down the Columbia from his windows, watch the ships and barges and plan the next fishing trip.

Kim is survived by his maternal grandmother, Maude White; his mother, Betty; brother, Paul ('71), and nephew, Christian Howard; brother, Brian ('74), and his wife, Barbara, nephew, Christopher, and niece, Rachell Howard; brother, Darryl, and his wife, Sandy, and niece, Ashley Howard; aunt, Copper (White) Pemberton, and her husband, Jay; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins scattered across the country with a special place in his heart of Krista Grimes.

Kim dearly loved his birth family and his second "family" of union brothers and sisters. He will be so greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a favorite charity or to Local 77 Brotherhood Fund in Angus Square, Kennewick 99336 or Local 125 Brotherhood Fund at 211 N.E. 18th Avenue in Portland, OR 97232.

A potluck memorial farewell was held on April 18, 1998 at the Shahala Shelter 6 in Blue Lake Park, Exit 14 off I-84, near Troutdale, OR.

Published in the Tri-City Herald on April 16, 1998.
