Steven E. Zimmerman, 41, of Tumwater, died after a battle with a gliomablastoma brain tumor on Monday, June 14, 1993, in his home.

He was born to Edward M. and Marcia Zimmerman on August 10, 1951, in Richland. Steve spent his childhood in CleElum, Bellevue and Richland, where he was graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1969. He was then graduated with a B.A. from Washington State University and earned an M.A. from the University of Washington.

Steve worked for the City of Richland and the Department of Social and Health Services early in his career. He worked for Thurston County government for 15 years, with the last 10 years as deputy chief administrative officer.

He enjoyed reading, baseball, hiking, photography, and he particularly enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

Steve is survived by his wife, Gail (Breckenridge) Zimmerman of the family home; a son, Nathan (Yarbrough) Zimmerman; his parents, Edward and Marcia Zimmerman of Sunnyside; a sister, Nancy (Zimmerman) Smith ('67) (Lyle) of Russellville, Arkansas; a nephew, Erik Foraker of Russellville, Arkansas; and his father-in-law, LaRue Breckenridge and his family of Centralia.

A funeral service was held on June 18, 1993, in the Olympia First United Methodist Church at 1224 Legion Way S.E. in Olympia. Interment took place in the Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church; c/o The Elevator for the Disabled Fund; 1224 Legion Way S.E.; Olympia, WA 98501.

Arrangements were by Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary in Centralia.
